Why Smartstone?

Natural textures and colours

SmartStone has a unique colour blending technique for all “blended colours”, which enables us to create products with varied colouring, as is found in nature. Our textures have their origin in natural stone. Combined with our colour blending ability, this produce naturally beautiful products.

Thicker pavers provide more strength:

It is important to select the right product for the project: We recommend 73 mm cobbles for commercial traffic; our cobbles for residential applications are generally 50mm thick (note that a 40mm cobble has 20% less concrete than than a 50mm cobble); while 40mm cobbles and flagstones are designed for pedestrian traffic.

Denser concrete provides more strength

It is fact that denser concrete provides superior strength. Therefore consider the actual weight of various available Cast Stone products. The less it weighs – the less strength it will provide.

Nibs for installation accuracy

SmartStone cobbles have nibs on the their sides. These nibs make it easier and quicker to install our cobbles, and ensure precise installation. In order to produce a product with delicate nibs, SmartStone has precision engineered masters and high tech moulds. Many competitor products either do not have nibs, or offer inaccurate nibs, which defies the purpose.

Superior moulds for superior products

Cast stone moulds have a limited lifespan. SmartStone has a dedicated in-house mould manufacturer, which together with a stringent replacement program, ensures the integrity of our moulds. Defective moulds equals defective product.

Dimensional accuracy

Most cast stone products are handmade, and many manufacturers claim dimensional variances are therefore inevitable. SmartStone is known for the dimensional accuracy of it’s range. Dimensional accuracy not only ensures an easier, neater installation but also results in improved strength and longevity of the paved area, once installed.

Be creative with SmartStone

“Natural” is not always better

Cast stone is considered by some to be a “cost effective” alternative to natural stone. This assumption is incorrect. Cast stone is generally more expensive than quarried stone from third world countries.

Cast stone has developed over centuries to offer the beauty of natural stone without the limitations. SmartStone’s products offer tested, engineered properties which result in a predictable lifespan. SmartStone’s adherence to stringent, quality controlled, standards results in an end product that is uniform in density - without weak spots.

SmartStone has become the generic name for cast stone products. There are many contractors who may “sell” you SmartStone, but install a cheaper product. It is advisable that you are present when your stock is delivered in order to ensure that you receive SmartStone.
